CHARLESTON, Ill.—Former Christian Brothers University guard and current Eastern Illinois University assistant coach Jackie Moore passed away tragically last night.
Moore, a native of Windsor, Ontario, played for the Lady Bucs in the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons, leading the Lady Bucs to the NCAA Division II South Regional as a junior. She was an All-GSC West player as a senior. She was in her third season as an assistant coach at Eastern Illinois. After graduating from CBU, she played professionally in Austria for a year.
“When I think of Jackie, I think first and foremost what an outstanding teammate she was," said CBU women's basketball coach Scott Groninger. "We have been reaching out to her former teammates today and they have been really crushed by this loss. Our Christian Brothers family loved her. She was a player who played hard everyday and would just challenge you with her intensity on the court. She was on the right path to be successful both in her professional career and personal life. She was way too young to be leaving us.”
"We're saddened to hear of Jackie's passing," said athletics director Joe Nadicksbernd. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Jackie's friends and family."
Moore's impact went well beyond the court. "Jackie was bright light to the CBU community and a wonderful model for other young people," said Faculty Athletic Representative Brother Walter Schreiner.
A memorial service for Moore is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon at EIU's Lantz arena. Funeral arrangements have not been announced at this time.
