Bucs Win DSU Invitational Again, Lady Bucs Third

CLEVELAND, Miss.—For the second straight year, the Christian Brothers University Bucs won the Delta State University Invitational Saturday morning in Cleveland, Miss.  The Lady Bucs finished third.

Nate Spears (Dayton, Ohio/Beavercreek HS) was the leader for the Bucs, finishing the 6k course with a fifth-place time of 19:37.  Brett McAdams (Cleveland, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview HS) followed him across the line in 19:49.  Max Group (Dayton, Ohio/Beavercreek HS) was 10th in 20:14, followed by Rex Hammonds (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) a second later.  Alex Shipp (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) finished the scoring for CBU with a 16th-place finish in 20:31.

The Bucs finished with 27 points, seven ahead of Southern Arkansas, who entered the meet ranked ninth in the South Region by the USTFCCCA.  Blue Mountain finished third with 72 points, followed by Rust with 72 points.  Arkansas-Pine Bluff entered an incomplete team for the race.

"We ran well as a team, and we picked it up to get the win," said coach Bill Hoffman.  "This is a great race to get us going this season.  We had a great overall performance from both teams."

The Lady Bucs finished third, led by Danielle Hobbs (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) in 12th place, finishing the 5k course in 23:16.  Brittly Butler (Dyersburg, Tenn./Dyersburg HS) crossed the line in 13th place in 23:22.  Jessica Beck (Lakeland, Tenn./Arlington HS) was 19th in 24:45, followed by Rachael Haag (Memphis, Tenn./St. Agnes Academy) two seconds later in 20th.  Christine Vick (Brighton, Tenn./Brighton HS) rounded out the scoring for CBU, finishing in 24th place with a time of 25:56.

CBU will run again Saturday, Sept. 26, as they head to Oxford, Miss., for the Pre-SEC Invitational.
