HENDERSON, Tenn.—The Christian Brothers University Bucs could not capitalize on two strong pitching perfomances as host Freed-Hardeman swept the Bucs 3-1 and 3-2 in a doubleheader Tuesday night.

The Bucs (4-14) struck first in the first game as Matt Van Slyke (Oxford, Miss./Oxford HS) singled and scored on a two-out Joseph Kaminski (Sherwood, Ark./Little Rock Catholic HS) double.  The rest of the way, however, FHU (10-7) hurler Adam Blackburn kept the Bucs off-balance, allowing just one run on five hits and a walk in the seven-inning complete game.

FHU's Evan Mansell homered in the second inning to tie the game, and Brian Bullard homered to start the fourth and give FHU the lead for good.  Derek Bush drove in the game's final run later in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly.

Joey Blankenship (Humboldt, Tenn./Humboldt HS) took the loss for the Bucs, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk in five innings.  John Romo (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) threw a scoreless sixth with two strikeouts.

The nightcap started much like the first game, with Van Slyke singling to start the game.  He scored on a one-out single by Josh Shelton (Rosemark, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS).  In the fifth, Van Slyke doubled the Bucs' lead to 2-0 as he singled home Tyler Dunn (Bartlett, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy), who had hit a leadoff single.

The Lions used a walk, two singles, and an error to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, and Garrett Ammons belted the game-winning homer in the sixth inning.

Van Slyke was the only CBU player in either game with more than one hit as he went 2-for-3 in the nightcap.

Romo (0-2) allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits and five walks in five and two-third innings.  He struck out four.

The Bucs open Gulf South Conference West Division play Saturday at noon as they host Arkansas-Monticello for a doubleheader.
