MEMPHIS—Christian Brothers University men's basketball coach Mike Nienaber has announced the signing of Cory McArthy, a guard from Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis, to a National Letter of Intent to join the Bucs next season.

McArthy, a two-time All-District and All-Metro Catholic Conference selection, averaged 12.6 points and 3.4 assists per game as a senior, setting six CBC school records as he led the Cadets to a 23-9 record and a third-place finish in the Class 5A State Tournament.  McArthy was the MVP of the Highland Shootout and was named All-Tournament at the DC Wilcutt Tournament three years in a row.

His 76 three-pointers made this season broke the previous school record set by Charlotte Bobcats guard Larry Hughes.  McArthy also set the single-season school records for three-point percentage (46.3 percent) as well as three-pointers attempted (164).  He set the career mark for most threes made (166) and attempted (392), and he also set the single-season CBC record for free throw percentage as a junior, shooting 89 percent.

"It's good to add a player from CBC, and St. Louis has been good to us lately," said Nienaber.  "With his shooting ability and his feel for the game, he should help us fill the role of Kyle Couvion (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville HS)."

McArthy also excels in the classroom, ranking in the top five percent in his senior class with a 4.2 GPA.  He was named Academic All-MCC twice and is a member of the National Honor Society.

McArthy's father, Kevin, played for the Bucs from 1983-1985, leading CBU to 46 wins, including a 25-10 record and their only VSAC Championship in 1984-85.  He led the Bucs in scoring as a senior, averaging 16.3 ppg as he shot 59.4 percent from the floor.  He finished with 1,037 points in 71 games, ranking 17th in school history with 14.6 ppg, and he shot 87.5 percent from the free throw line.

McArthy will be the third St. Louis native on the roster for CBU, joining Clayton High products Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton HS) and Syd Warner (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton HS).
