MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University athletics department has announced the hiring of the school’s all-time leading scorer, Sarah Condra, as the eighth women’s basketball coach in school history. After spending last season as an assistant coach at CBU, Condra replaces Scott Groninger, who resigned last month to take a similar position at West Georgia.
After enrolling at CBU as a walk-on, Condra rewrote the school and Gulf South Conference record books, scoring 1,506 points as she made 367 career three-pointers, making 38.6 percent for her career. She was the leading scorer on the 2003-04 GSC West Champion Lady Bucs, leading them to a 23-7 record and the school’s only NCAA South Regional appearance.
“I’m excited to be home coaching my alma mater,” Condra said. “The opportunity is beyond words, really. Not just to be a head coach at the college level, but also to coach where I played makes it even more special. We have the core group back from a successful team last year, and I look forward to building on that success. We have it going in the right direction, and hopefully we can keep it going in the right direction.”
“We feel like Sarah is a perfect fit,” said Athletics Director Joe Nadicksbernd. “She’s a former All-Conference player. She exhibits a winning attitude, which she will parlay to her teams. We’re excited to bring her back home.”
She holds the top four seasons in school history in three-pointers made. As a junior, her 102 three-pointers made in 26 games led the nation, a mark that still ranks 15th in D-II history in threes per game. She ranks sixth in NCAA history overall, including third in D-II, for career three-pointers, and she is 10th in D-II in threes per game. She holds two of the top three seasons in GSC history in three-pointers.
Condra was a three-year team captain for the Lady Bucs, earning All-Conference honors twice. She graduated from CBU with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 2004. While enrolled at CBU, she coached softball at St. Agnes.
Condra, who has taught English at White Station High School for four years, has also served as a high school basketball coach in the Memphis area for five years. She coached at White Station for three years, and she taught English and coached at Brighton High School for two years. She is currently finishing her Masters in Physical Education from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
Prior to enrolling at CBU, Condra starred at Munford High School, where she was an All-District and All-Region player. She also lettered in golf, track, and cross country, winning team MVP honors in track.
